Boris started out as a Halloween decoration in the fall of 2020. Shortly thereafter, the festive idea of dressing him as the Grinch came to mind and became Boris’ first decoration. This was exciting for our family and community and a fun way to continue holiday cheer!
A real-life Grinch wrote a letter complaining that our yard decor "ruined their Christmas."
They went as far to complain to the town, where they were told there was nothing in the law about a 12′ skeleton being a yard decoration and there was nothing they could do!
(Thank you, Endicott, for supporting our Boris!)
After a few months of fun and being variously decorated, we were then approached by another real-life Grinch and asked how much it would cost for Boris to be removed!
We just couldn't believe this was happening, and this negative attitude is what led us to our decision of keeping Boris the Skeleton up as a year-round decoration.
Shortly thereafter, we realized the outpouring of support and followers of Boris and we decided to start using Boris the Skeleton as a way to better our community. That first year he themed his outfits and used his social media presence to raise money, collect food, and help get children Christmas gifts! Now, Boris continues to better our surrounding communities in ways that we had never imagined; through donations from fans, fundraisers and supplies raised for school supplies, food drives, holiday fundraising and toy collection for local families and even traveling to attend events to help raise funds for local non-profits!
